Acting legend Tom Hanks has signed on to lead the Englsih-language remake of Hannes Holm’s Swedish hit comedy ‘A Man Called Ove.’
Based on Fredrik Backman 2012 novel, the story follows Ove, a grumpy yet loveable retiree who spends his days enforcing block association rules and visiting his wife’s grave. Just as Ove has finally given up on life, he finds his solitary world turned on its head when a boisterous young family moves in next door.
In addition to starring, Hanks will serve as producer with Playtone partner Gary Goetzman. Rita Wilson will also produce, alongside Fredrik Wikstrom Nicastro of SF Studios.
“This story about love, tolerance and hope amplifies the qualities in movies that are hallmarks of the classic films we know and love,” said Wilson in a statement. “A Man Called Ove transcended the language barrier to touch readers and audiences in ways we long for. What an honour to be part of such beautiful material.”
