Anya Taylor-Joy, best known for roles in ‘The Witch’ and M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Split,’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ star Maisie Williams have officially been cast in director Josh Boone’s ‘X-Men’ spin-off ‘The New Mutants.’
Created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod, the comic series introduced a new crop of mutant characters born with special powers. The film will focus on the angst-driven adventures of a diverse group of teens that include Native American Danielle Moonstar, Wolfsbane, Brazilian ladies man Sunspot, a Kentuckian code-named Cannonball and Russian teen Magik. Also in the mix will be an alien named Warlock.
THR have Taylor-Joy playing Illyana Rasputina aka Magik, the younger sister of X-Man Colossus, who has learned sorcery and uses teleportation discs to travel. Williams will take on the role of Wolfsbane, a Scottish girl with the ability to transform into a wolf.
Taylor-Joy and Williams had long been rumoured for the superhero flick but Boone was only able pull the trigger on their casting after the film got the go-ahead earlier this year.
