Talking at a panel on the final day of Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California, director Gareth Edwards (‘Monsters,’ ‘Godzilla’) and producer Kathleen Kennedy revealed the first details on the upcoming ‘Star Wars’ spinoff, or as it is now being referred to, “anthology film,” ‘Star Wars: Rogue One.’
Confirming that the film will take place before the events of ‘Episode IV,’ the spinoff follows a band of resistance fighters coming together for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans.
‘The Theory of Everything’ star Felicity Jones, who was previously confirmed for the spinoff, will play a rebel soldier, with Ben Mendelsohn (‘Slow West,’ ‘Mississippi Grind’) rumoured for a role. Edwards also showed a special teaser for the fans attending.
Jones will next be seen starring alongside Jonah Hill and James Franco in the fact-based drama ‘True Story,’ opening in Irish cinemas July 24th 2015.
