It has been announced, via Twitter, that ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ co-creator/co-writer/co-star Rob McElhenney will take the director’s chair for the big screen outing of ‘Minecraft.’
The project is based on the hugely successful first-person, free-to-build sandbox game in which the player can engage in a virtual world, creating and modifying a dynamically generated map made of one-cubic-meter-sized blocks.
Shawn Levy (‘Real Steel,’ ‘This Is Where I Leave You’) was initially set to direct the Warner Bros-based project but dropped out late last year due to creative differences with the game’s publisher, Mojang. Roy Lee and Jill Messick are on board to produce.
