Oscar-winner to play inept opera singer…
The Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigboye, who is always great for a scoop, has learned that ‘Philomena’ director Stephen Frears is to direct Meryl Streep (‘The Iron Lady,’ ‘The Giver’) in a biopic of Florence Foster Jenkins.
Nicknamed “the diva of din” and “the first lady of the sliding scale,” Jenkins was an enthusiastic operatic soprano who was known—and ridiculed—for her lack of rhythm, pitch, and tone.
Bamigboye adds that Hugh Grant, who is currently in cinemas with the romantic comedy ‘The Rewrite,’ is in talks to play the tone-deaf operatic wannabe’s manager, “who may well have been more to her than that.”
Michael Kuhn (‘The Duchess,’ ‘Being John Malkovich’) and Frears’ long-time collaborator Tracey Seaward will produce.
Streep will next be seen starring in Disney’s musical ensemble ‘Into The Woods,’ which hits Irish cinemas January 9th 2015.
