Jennifer Lawrence (‘Mother!,’ ‘Red Sparrow’) has come on board to produce, as well as star in ‘Burial Rites,’ the next feature from ‘Call Me By Your Name’ director Luca Guadagnino.
Per Variety, the film is based on Hannah Kent’s 2013 novel of the same name, which tells of Agnes Magnúsdóttir — the last woman to be publicly executed in Iceland. Agnes was condemned to death in 1830 for her part in the brutal murder of two men.
Allison Shearmur, who oversaw development and production of Lawrence’s ‘The Hunger Games,’ will produce the true crime drama alongside Justine Ciarrocchi and Lawrence. Filmmaker Gary Ross (‘Ocean’s 8,’ ‘Free State of Jones,’ The Hunger Games’) and Jerry Kalajian will serve as executive producers.
