Filming underway in LA…
James Franco is stepping behind the camera to tackle an adaptation of Steve Erickson’s 2007 ‘Zeroville,’ and the multi-hyphenate has assembled a cast that includes Jacki Weaver (‘The Fighter’), Seth Rogen (‘The Interview’), Megan Fox (‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’), Danny McBride (‘As I Lay Dying’), Will Ferrell (‘Anchorman’), and Dave Franco (‘Bad Neighbours’).
The book, published in 2007, is officially described as follows:
“‘Zeroville’ is a unique love letter to film. It centres on the story of Vikar, a young architecture student so enthralled with the movies that his friends call him “cinéautistic.” With an intensely religious childhood behind him, and tattoos of Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift on his head, he arrives in Hollywood where he’s mistaken for a member of the Charles Manson “family” and eventually scores a job as a film editor. Vikar discovers the frames of a secret film within the reels of every movie ever made, and sets about splicing them together—an undertaking that takes on frightening theological dimensions.”
Screen Daily has Oscar-nominee Weaver playing Dotty Langer, a veteran film editor who also acts as a mentor and friend to Franco’s Vikar, while ‘Eastbound and Down’ star Danny McBride will play a sinister financier.
Craig Robinson (‘Hot Tub Time Machine’), Joey King (‘Wish You Were Here’) and Horatio Sanz (‘The Dictator’) have also joined the cast.
Franco is helming the adaptation from a script by Paul Felton and Ian Olds have scripted, with Caroline Aragon and Vince Jolivette producing.
