Judy Greer, Fred Armisen and more also on board…
Billie Joe Armstrong, best known as the lead singer for Green Day, is to take the lead in director Lee Kirk’s music drama ‘Geezer,’ with Judy Greer (‘Married,’ ‘Arrested Development’), Fred Armisen (‘Portlandia,’ ‘Saturday Night Live’) and Selma Blair (‘In Their Skin,’ ‘Hellboy’) co-starring.
Per Variety, the film follows “the mid-life crisis of a husband and father who, on his 40th birthday, decides to revisit his punk-rock past by throwing an extravagant party in the presidential suite of the Drake Hotel — where he encounters his beautiful ex-girlfriend and former bandmates who have since moved on to bigger and better things.”
Dallas Roberts (‘The Walking Dead,’ ‘Grey’), Chris Messina (‘Devil,’ ‘The Mindy Project’), and Brian Baumgartner (‘The Office’) are also starring.
“The initial seeds for ‘Geezer’ were planted a couple of years ago, when my son was born within weeks of my fortieth birthday,” said Kirk. “Billie Joe Armstrong brings an exciting authenticity to the film. He’s a dad, he’s a musician and he’s an incredible talent.”
Production is underway in New York City, with Tim Perell of Process Media and Alex A. Ginzburg and Tony Lee of Let It Play producing. ‘Geezer’ will feature new songs written and performed by Armstrong.
