Elizabeth Banks and Brownstone Productions partner Max Handelman have set in motion plans for ‘Queen for a Day,’ a feature inspired by Chris Lee’s Daily Beast story ‘When Prince Made a Chambermaid His Queen for a Day.’
With Flora Greeson rewriting the first draft of the screenplay, which was penned by Josh Stolberg, the film is about the chaos that occurred in 1986 when Warner Bros hatched a contest to draw attention to multiplatinum-selling pop-rock sensation Prince’s Purple Rain follow-up Under The Cherry Moon.
The film studio staged Win A Date With Prince, an MTV contest in which the 10,000th caller won a date with the rock star. The winner was Lisa Barber, a shy, awkward young lady in Sheridan, Wyoming who cleaned hotels and was a big Mötley Crüe fan.
In addition to focusing on Barber, the film will also follow Robyn Riggs, the Manhattan PR executive responsible for the event’s success. Bank is believed to be playing the role of Riggs.
