Benedict Cumberbatch and Jake Gyllenhaal are being lined up to co-star in ‘Call Me By Your Name’ and ‘A Bigger Splash’ director Luca Guadagnino’s next, the Steven Knight-scripted thriller ‘Rio.’
Per Variety, the story centres on “a financial reporter (Gyllenhaal) who travels to Rio de Janeiro to visit a wealthy friend (Cumberbatch), only to get sucked into a plot to fake his friend’s death.” The film is also said to feature a “strong female lead.”
Studiocanal will back the project, with Gyllenhaal and his Nine Stories Productions partner Riva Marker producing. Cumberbatch’s SunnyMarch partner Adam Ackland will co-produce.
