Jonathan Levine (‘Warm Bodies,’ ‘The Wackness,’ ‘50/50’) is set to take the helm for a follow-up to Eddie Murphy’s iconic 1988 comedy ‘Coming to America,’ with Kenya Barris (‘Black-ish’) on scripting duties.
The John Landis-directed original starred Murphy as an extremely pampered African prince who travels to Queens, New York City, to escape an arranged marriage and find a wife who will love him in spite of his title.
While nothing is official, THR says that Murphy is involved with development and is expected to star.
Barris will write a new draft of the screenplay, taking over from Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield, the writers behind the original film. Kevin Misher is producing.
