A new adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s classic gothic novel ‘Rebecca’ is in the works over at Working Title Films, with Armie Hammer and Lily James (‘Baby Driver,’ ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’) attached to star under the direction of Ben Wheatley (‘Free Fire,’ ‘Kill List,’ ‘High Rise,’ ‘A Field In England’).
REBECCA tells the story of a newly married young woman who, on arriving at her husband’s imposing family estate on a bleak English coast, finds herself battling the shadow of his dead first wife, the mysterious titular character, whose legacy continues to haunt the house.
Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, the 1940 original starred Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine, and Judith Anderson. The film won two Academy Awards, Best Picture and Cinematography, out of a total 11 nominations.
Production on the new film will commence early next year. Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan Working Title are on to produce with Nira Park.
