Irish actor Aidan Gillen (‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘The Wire,’ ‘Queer As Folk’) has closed a deal to join the cast of ‘Maze Runner: Scorch Trials,’ the recently announced sequel to Wes Ball’s young-adult post-apocalyptic flick ‘The Maze Runner.’
An adaptation of the first book in James Dashner’s young adult trilogy, ‘The Maze Runner’ follows the story of Thomas (Dylan O’Brien), who is deposited in a community of boys after his memory is erased, soon learning they’re all trapped in a maze that will require him to join forces with fellow “runners” for a shot at escape.
Ball returns to direct ‘Maze Runner: Scorch Trials,’ with Heat Vision hearing that Gillen is on board to take the role of Janson. The character, also referred to as “Rat-Man,” becomes the main antagonist of the ‘Maze Runner’ books. Production is gearing up for an late October start.
‘The Maze Runner’ opens in Irish cinemas on October 10th.
