Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

Solid 3 stars. Nowhere near as good as the first incarnation but still a good film with some good laughs...if you go to see it with the right people.

You know what I thought this would actually be terrible, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Moretz does a good job as does the lead evil bitch :) All in all a good horror film, though I would have probably given it 4 stars if it weren't so predictable

Continuing with a tradition of animated films being excellent. Story was great, a bit predictable in places, but all in all was a good film and told an interesting story other than the norm :)

I heard alot of fuss and hype about this before seeing it and didn't think it would live up to the hype. Several sources quoted it as "redefining cinema" and all these sort of over-the-top gestures. While I don't think it redefined anything I have to say it was an excellent movie. The cinematography was top notch, with some very well written scenes and Sandra Bullock doing a great job. Plenty of places they could have inserted several of the cliché moments we have come to know and I was pleasantly surprised when they didn't go down that road. Edgy...thrilling...and beautiful, highly recommended. Why not 5 stars? Well honestly because I just can't see myself going to the cinema to see it again and quite honestly the only films that I would give 5 are those that I want to go see in the cinema again and again and again. Still a hefty 4 stars though! :)

I don't know why people are dissing it. Agreed it's not the best thing ever but it's actually not bad. It's at least a unique story line :)

Now You See Me

Watched this last night...and I have to say while it wasn't an amazing film, not the best film of the year, I was pleasantly surprised at how entertained I was. I thought the story line was fresh, intelligent and completely pulled me in. In typical mystery style I found myself falling for plots and really just falling into it, and in the end that's what makes a film good. Realistically it is a 3star film, it's not that amazing, but I think over-all with the acting, the story and the execution it deserves a 4 star rating. A lot of people complained about the ending, and while it wasn't in anyway shocking or informative, I thought it actually quite fit in with the theme of the film. The closer you look...the less you see.

The Expendables 2

First was ok...barely...this outing was just a waste of film. Actors popping in and out seemingly from no where, throwing out catch phrases for no reason. The whole thing was just a giant advert for a book of catch-phrases. The scripting was lazy, stupid and careless and frankly is one of the poorest examples of scripting I've seen from a big budget film in that last decade. I wasn't expecting a whole lot, but this would so far under my expectations that it can get nothing but 1 star.

It has got to get 4 stars in all seriousness. I went in expecting a piece of crap, and the worst acting ever, and have been pleasantly proven wrong. For once, I didn't hate JD's performance, I didn't love it either but it wasn't anywhere near what I thought it would be. Overall the story was engrossing, and brings us back to the old westerns where story and plot are important and is a nice change of pace from the usual CGI infested fishing net that are modern films. And I will admit, I may have had a little nerd-gasm when the music played and he started running along the rooftops...:) Just saying...

The Wolverine

I was going to give it 3, but in reality I can't. This isn't a bad film, it's not great either, but it's not bad. However when I look back and see that we have basically had 5 Wolverine films (XMen 1-3 we're basically veiled Wolverine films i'm afraid), I would have expected a lot more to break away from the utter rubbish that were the last ones. Unfortunately it did not. The best part was the end-credit scene. Which is not a good sign. I think maybe I have just had too much Wolverine at this point, there are other far more interesting characters in the X-Men universe to explore.

Absolutely fantastic film, magical, uplifting, colourful and just a really good watch. Better than 99% of the films released recently if you ask me, original story line, great voice acting, perfect animation.
