A Hijacking

This thriller is really excellent. While short on action, it is high on suspense which it builds up slowly and surely thoughout its running time. Almost become unbearable to watch at times, due to the dark turns it takes. Wonderful performances from all really add to the very realisitic feel the film has. Drags a little bit in the middle phase, but it is a small complaint (it feels a lot longer than 99 minutes)

I'm So Excited

While never quite clicking and not really having too many laugh out loud moments, this film still breezes along quite nicely and is entertaining enough. An intriguing sub plot (set off the plane) is introduced and is then dropped just as quickly, which is a shame as this might have added to the film all round.

Fast & Furious 6

Another ridiculously entertaining film in the Fast and Furious franchise. Once again they have managed to up the madness level, with some wondrfully crazy stunts and set pieces. The actors are all still great in their roles and everyone has their moment. Long terms fans are also rewarded with some reminders from the past. Just continues to be the most "fun" series of films around. It knows what they are and what the audience wants and they give it in spades. Roll on Fast and Furious 7.

Once again JJ Abrams has worked his magic, as although this does not quite reach the heights of the first film, it is very close. Wonderful special effects, a great plot and the perfect cast all make what feels at times a very epic film. There are some faults though. Some of the cast is criminally wasted (Anton Yelchin in particular), and it feels a little predicatble at times. But still there are a number of nice surprises and nods to previous films and episodes to keep hardened fans happy.

Deadfall

While the film as a whole does not work, and some of the dialogue is pretty awful, an amazing cast saves the day in this thriller. Eric Bana in particular should get praise for his wonderfully over the top performance as the villian and he clearly is having a ball. But the less said about the female cop sub plot the better, as it is awful stuff. But worth a watch, if only for Bana's performance alone.

A very good slow burning drama/thriller this. The performances are all great (the two young actors in particular are fantastic) and the storyline is very different to the usual fare and is all the better for it. Comes from the same director as Take Shelter and has a very simialr feeling. Puts across tenstion brilliantly even though the film is quiet and restrained throughout. Goes a bit OTT near the end which does not match what has come before but is a small critism as the whole is very much a very good film.

Dead Man Down

This is a strange old film as the set up is very much for a action film, but the action is sparse throughtout. Instead it builds almost like a love story and the two leads are excellent in their roles. It does drag quite badly as the film takes it time to set things up and a quicker pace would have helped. But when the action does hit it is well worth the wait. An intersting attempt to be a more subtle and have a substantive action film.

Okay well the humour is borderline racist at times, and the plot is hardly original, but a great young cast and plenty of laugh out loud moments make this a dumb but enjoyable watch.

While this films is for the most part nice and light, its European background makes sure that it is a little bit darker and more realsitic than its Hollywood counterparts. That's not to say that they are not some hilarious moments, but is based in a bit more of a darker more realsitic place. The acting is all top notch and although it never realy moves into second gear, it still is an enjoyable solid watch.

Iron Man 3

Well the big question with Iron man 3 was how do you follow the very ordinary Iron Man 2 and the excellent Avengers movie. Well all worries go out the window very quickly as this is easily the best of the Iron Man movies and arguably one of the best superhero films ever. The film perfectly mixes all the elements you need, with some darkness, but also with some hilarious one liners. The action scenes are all fantastic, there are some wonderful twists and turns. Robert Downey Jnr. puts in his best performance yet as Tony Stark (which says a lot). All round just a fantastic movie.

This film is great fun. Complete and utter nonsence. But great fun. Has some great non-stop action scenes, Gerard Butler in great form as the hero and one of the wildest plots out there. Just turn your brain off and enjoy the show entertainment.

A Late Quartet

Despite a great cast, this film is not great. The whole thing is just bogged down with unlikable characters, and just so overly depressing at times. Some humour and good nature would have added so much to proceedings. But the cast do their best, some of the music is lovely, and is watchable enough.
