Movies.ie Critic Review

Back in her native Woodsboro for the first time ten years, to launch her book charting her battles with the serial killer The Ghostface Killer, Sidney (Campbell) is shocked to discover that the murders have started again. And for Sheriff Dewey (Arquette), that means keeping Sidney in town until the investigation is complete. The only people enjoying the new thrill ride are Dewey’s jaded spouse, Gail (Cox), and Sidney’s book publicist, Rebecca (Brie)…

THE VERDICT: Well, at least that’s two people enjoying this cynical attempt to revive a generally-loved, self-referential and initially very smart horror franchise. Writer Williamson clashed badly with producer Bob Weinstein, and left the production early, whilst Craven is clearly happy just to be back in the spotlight after a string of so-so outings. Ditto the returning lead cast, of course. That might have been the angle to take – faded stars, ready to do anything for a little more celebrity buzz. Even make a mediocre sequel. Too much meta, not enough magical mayhem, this might as well be Scary Movie 5.

Distinctly average, all the attempts at being "meta" and self aware and taking the Mick out of itself just feel flat and lifeless. The performance of the cast is the worst "dialed in" fare I've seen in quite a while and the production values come across as cheap. Wouldn't recommend it even as a DVD rental.

Watched this at the weekend and I have to say I found it very good, although most of it was predictable especially the ending, but then again it did have me questioning my guesses lol. Now the reason for the movie not getting 5 stars from me is Emma Roberts, her acting is just so bland, until the near the end of the movie she just didn't do anything with her character except try and be a Sydney clone, but the movie is definitely worth seeing that's for sure.

Compared with so many of the rebooted slasher flicks, Scream 4 remains a cut above. No, that is not an intended pun

Probably the best in the follow ups from the first movie. Some funny moments and one or two jumps but nothing spectacular. Watchable movie.

I should have seen it coming.... Follows all the scream franchise past films. Totally lost it's 'scare' factor but it does still keep you guessing who 'ghostface' is. Diehard scream fans go see it. Everyone else wait for the DVD.

Emma Roberts grates a bit but most of the cast do a good job. Clever in parts, funny in others...as for scary? Well A few cheap jumps but not all that atmospheric

As a lover of the original Scream film, this was a gem of a film for me. Poking fun at itself, at rip offs, at remakes, at reboots and at rebooting a franchise that could possibly have been remade but is by being this film. Intelligent, witty and with some jumpy bits. Delight for any horror or Scream fan out there. Added bonus of watching Courtney Cox and David Arquette, life imitating art, imitating life.

It kinda takes the piss out of itself, but it's still a good movie. Nowhere near the level of the originals though.

Good fun...probably the best of the sequels....though slightly undone by the fact that Emma Roberts cant act

I don't really remember much from the previous Scream installments but, heading to a late-night screening and hoping to be entertained, I was rewarded. It is an outstanding sequel, having managed to attract the original director and key members of the cast, with a great script which is equally funny as well as violent. Moreover, it turns metafictional and pokes fun at horror franchises, and itself for that matter. Blood, guts and laughs are shed all over the screen with gusto. Great stuff.

While I worried that this film would not live up to the original films, it is actually a very good entry to the series and is great fun. More horror and comedy meshed together with a love of the genre. So put simple, if you liked the original trilogy, you'll like this.

Ok so Its movie 4. all the rules are broken and they keep making reference to this fact throughout the movie which point out the fact that everyone is there to have fun and are not taking this film seriously and as a viewer you shouldnt either. Better than 2/3 (which wouldnt be hard) but not as good as 1. the endings a bit fluffy and the killer is obvious from about the 15 minute mark but this film is a enjoyable romp. a return to form from wes. I laughed my ass off throughout the movie along with half the cinema. it was a great vibe. Ok so its not a great movie but its entertaining. If you liked the first you'll like this. I DID and im very hard to please

While the posters and the title seem more in line with the Scary Movie franchise, this is actually a good follow on for a genre bending trilogy. The formula feels a little dated throughout but it refrences that itself. Sydney as usual is a boring character and Gail is in it just to show that there is still original cast members in the franchise. Dewey is still a fun character but the new cast are a bit flat. Not as fun as the kids of the 90's and all so smart with their techno talk. I honestly couldnt call who the killer was though. The reveal i thought was fantastic. Also the gore is upped in this flick, but not in a Saw fashion. As a fan of Scream i wasnt sure if this was gonna be any good, but is pretty decent. If you saw any of the Scream films when they were out, this is really good fun. Nice nods to the original and its nice to see a part 4 of a franchise take the piss out of remakes.
